Well no, I don't think so. As I said and as you quoted "Any dupes in the
original data are better fixed by running hardlink or similar on the
original data, not the backup."

The case of backup images from different servers is a case where only
the backup system could save space though. So folks in such a position
might want to add a post command for that. JMHO
