You're absolutely right. Meanwhile I have answered Eric, that I think I
found the problem - as you described it to me. I had a script running which
changed owner settings for all files to allow another service on a different
machine to access those backup files (make another copy on the separate
machine) ... and that made dirvish/ rsync stumble ...
